The i-Media Business Division at Hakuhodo DY Media Partners Inc. has developed Rocket Box, a video conversion Application Service Provider that collects positioning information from streets and shops filmed for television programs and stores them in an image database and enables this data to be distributed. The service was opened to broadcasters and other video content holders in July 2009.
Broadcasters perform secondary editing on program content, use Rocket Box to add positioning information such as latitude, longitude, and altitude, and then upload the video material onto the server. Once on the server, the video material is automatically converted into various video formats and stored in a database. It then becomes compatible with a number of next-generation communication services that allow access to the video through mobile phones, car navigation systems, or other devices that use geographical information.
Rocket Box also allows users to easily distribute TV program video from their own websites. The ability to reuse video material after it has been broadcast creates more opportunities for viewers to gain an interest in the content and may increase the number of actual program viewers.
Hakuhodo DY Media Partners has teamed up with mobile phone carriers and other companies and plans to provide and test trial position-linked information services that use next-generation mobile navigation applications compatible with Rocket Box.
Hakuhodo DY Media Partners will continue to provide valuable media services to advertisers, media holders, and sei-katsu-sha alike while pursuing the possibilities of innovative advertising business models.
